Best Laser Rust Removal Machines: Four Cleaners and Two Welders Compared

By Stefan Florin3 min read

Research-based, not hands-on: we have not tested these machines. Some links may pay us a commission, which never changes the order or the verdict. See our editorial policy.

How we picked

We have not tested any of these machines, and this page does not pretend otherwise. We read each maker's own product page on October 4, 2026, kept what could be checked, and flagged what could not. The list below is ordered by price, lowest first, and commission plays no part in the order. Read our editorial policy if you want the full method.

The comparison

MachineTypePriceWarrantyCooling
Xlaserlab Q1Pulsed, 120 W$5,799.991 yearAir
SFX SLC-1525CW, 1500 W$8,2991 year (2 on the laser source)Water
Everlast 200CPPulsed, 200 W$12,4993 yearsAir
Cloudray CL-300Pulsed, 300 W+$15,9992 yearsAir

The two welders at the end of this page, the xTool MetalFab ($4,699 for the 800 W) and the ArcCaptain LW1200 ($7,299 on sale), list cleaning as a third mode. They are a different kind of buy, covered below.

Which one for which job

Lowest entry price for a pulsed handheld: Xlaserlab Q1

At $5,799.99 it is less than half the price of the next pulsed unit. The head weighs 600 g by the maker's numbers. The warning is the listing itself: it still shows a pre-order and a ship date of March 15, 2026, and gives no laser class. Ask before you pay whether it is in stock.

Support from a US seller: Everlast 200CP

At $12,499 it costs more than twice the Q1. In return you get a 3-year warranty and a seller in the US. The product page does not state the laser class or the shipping and returns terms, so ask for both.

Heavy, repeat work at a fixed station: SFX SLC-1525

A 1500 W continuous wave unit at $8,299, water-cooled, 115 kg and up. The page promises US stock, free shipping and a 30-day return policy. We could not tell whether SFX builds the machine or resells it, and the page does not state the laser class.

Only if you accept import terms: Cloudray CL-300

The largest and most expensive of the four at $15,999. It ships from China, the buyer pays duties, taxes and customs charges, and returns of a machine carry fees of 10% (unopened), 20% (opened) or 50% (used). The warranty excludes back-reflection damage from copper, brass, gold and silver. The maker says the machine is "compliant with FDA and CE certifications". We found no accession number.

If you also weld: a 3-in-1

The xTool MetalFab and ArcCaptain LW1200 weld, cut and clean. ArcCaptain lists a cleaning width of up to 3.15 in. xTool says its cleaning mode runs on compressed air. For a shop that welds more than it cleans, one of these costs less than a welder plus a cleaner. For a shop that cleans most days, a dedicated unit is the safer pick, because we found no independent comparison of the two approaches.

Questions to ask any seller

  • What is the laser class, and where is the key switch and the remote interlock connector?
  • What is the FDA accession number for this model? (Not "is it FDA compliant". The number.)
  • Who pays duties and who pays return shipping?
  • What wavelength band do your goggles cover, and are they in the box?
  • Does the warranty cover the laser source and the scanner head, and for how long?

What we could not verify

  • Real-world cleaning speed for any model.
  • Whether the Q1 ships now.
  • Tariff treatment on any of these machines. The rules changed several times in 2026 and we could not confirm the current rate from an official source.
